Esters

Esters are formed by the condensation of acids with alcohols. (Leading to the liberation of one molecule water.) In the case of carbonic acid esters, the hydrogen atom of the acid group is replaced by the alcoholic residue.

For this example, acetic acid and an unspecified alcohol (R) were chosen.
