True fungi (Eumycota)

Fungi characterized by more or less extended hyphal networks (mycelia).

The hyphae of eumycota are stabilized by their chitin-containing cell walls. Loose hyphal networks are called mycelia, more stable networks plectenchymes.

Important classes of the eumycota are the chytridiomycetes, the zygomycetes, the ascomycetes, and the basidiomycetes.
