Angiosperms

Subdivision of the seed plants, characterized by the formation of seeds within an ovary.

One of the most important changes during the evolution of angiosperms was the participation of insects in pollination in contrast to wind pollination typical for gymnosperms. Wind pollination is only suitable, when many members of the same species are living closely together. Evolution of angiosperms started about 110 million years ago, today they have evolved 240 000 species and are the largest group of plants on earth.
