Protein folding

Sterical arrangement of the amino acid chain of a protein in a form that fits to its biological function.

Proteins are only functional (e.g. as enzymes), when they are folded the right way. In general, the amino acid chain is folded directly after production, in some cases under the participation of various additional proteins.
