Reptils

Class of vertebrates better adapted to life on the mainland than the older amphibia.

The reptils developed in the course of the carboniferous period. Their complete life cycle (including mating in particular) is occurring on dry land. Due to an improved arrangement of their limbs (below the body), they were able to move more efficient and faster. Their dry skins allowed survival under dry conditions. The group of dinosaurs became the dominating group of vertebrates during the whole mesozoic period. Recent groups are snakes, lizards, crocodiles, and turtles.
