Under natural conditions, carbon is made of the isotopes indicated above. 14C (marked in red colour) is a radioactive isotope, which occurs only in trace amounts. The isotope 13C refers only to a small percentage (1.1%) of natural carbon as well.
In its elemental form carbon exists as diamond or graphite. Carbon atoms can contribute 4 electrons for covalent bonds.
