Most of the 3 000 members of the rose family (here a flower from blackberry) are woody or herbaceous plants growing in the temperate zones.
Because of their flowers or fruits, many species from this family have been cultivated (for example roses (Rosa), plums (Prunus), apricots, peaches, apples (Malus), strawberries (Fragaria)). The wild forms of apples, pears and sweet cherries have originated in central europe; most other fruit trees are coming from asia.
