Tropical rain forests

A climate with much rainfall (2000 to 5000 mm a year) and high temperatures lasting the whole year allows the growth of tropical rain forests.

Tropical rain forests are forming the most diverse plant communities on earth. In contrast to the temperate latitudes, the main part of the mineral nutrients in tropical rain forests is not bound in the soil, but by the plants. Therefore tropical rain forests hardly recover after deforestation.
