Early flowering plants

Early flowering plants are e.g. coltsfoot (Tussilago farfara), the wood-anemone (Anemone nemorosa) or members of the willow family (Salix, see figure). The flower primordia of these plants are formed already in autumn of the preceeding year. The plants are flowering, before producing their leaves. Because of the early flowering time, the plants experience little competition for pollinating insects.
