Halogens

The elements fluorine, chlorine, bromine, iodine and astat are belonging to the halogens. The corresponding atoms are easily taking up electrons forming negatively charged ions. Such ions are participating in the formation of many salts. The tendency for the formation of such ions is decreasing in the order given above.
