Rhizodermis

The outer-most cell layer of the root is important for its protection and for the uptake of water and mineral nutrients (phosphate, nitrate, ammonia, potassium...). Cells of the rhizodermis are forming root hairs for the uptake of such compounds in young sections of the root.
